The Culture And Literature Images Under The Restriction Of Multiple-Powers

Literature in the Japanese occupied area, as a special component of Chinese literature in the 20^th century and an indispensable link in the history of Chinese modern literature development, has come to attract attention from the researchers. Under the unusual historical circumstances then, both the literature invention and appearance in the occupied area present unique characteristics. The thesis chooses a comprehensive popular magazine which ran through the period of " isolated island" in Shanghai and during the time of being occupied by the Japanese to carry on the case study, in order to explore the complicated factors in the literature writing of the occupied areas and the unique experience in Chinese modern literature development In a word, the literature invention is based on literature magazines. But since the existence of magazines is confined by the market, the style is under the restriction of editorial ideal and the content is inevitably influenced by the policies of the occupied areas, thus, the structural authorities' inter-confinement mechanism is formed by the inter-functions of the three factors. Therefore, the starting point for this thesis to do research on Wanxiang is to analyze the culture field composed of various macroscopic and microscopic authorities which influence the development of Wanxiang. I define the check and balance powers in Wangxiang into two groups of relations: First, market (economic authority) - war (political authority) - editor and writer (culture authority), the struggling and negotiation among the three authorities strike the first balance in the magazine culture field. The second relation is a series of concepts with dual conflicts in the value fields such as: new/old, elegant/vulgar, serious/entertaining, traditional/modern, the inner tension and mutual adjustment as well as mutual learning and assimilation among these different literature value systems eventually reach the second balance in Wanxiang's culture field. Wanxiang's culture field greatly influences the cultural ecology of magazine and the development progression of literature.The full development of this thesis relies on the cultural authority field confining the progress of Wanxiang as an invisible clue, which runs through from beginning to the very end of the thesis and connects all parts into a relative intact system. The contents of all parts are generally the following: in the preface, I concisely summarize the present state in researching Wanxiang and the research method and significance of this thesis. Restricted by all kinds of factors, the research on Wanxiang is still on the stage of " to fill the blank", but the rush on researching literature magazines since 1990s' significantly offered some valuable methods on my research of Wanxiang, This thesis introduces theconcept of culture field and takes Wanxiang as a model to study the mutual relation between literature writing in the occupied areas and the authorities' confinement mechanism as well as to probe the inner rules in Chinese modern literature development.In the first chapter, the thesis gives a general introduction of Wanxiang. By the aid of studying the outer factors as the commercialize mechanism in running magazines, I observe the tensions among market, editorial ideal and cultural taste, and draw a conclusion fiom which that the distinctive cultural taste found in Wanxians is decided both by the relative advanced culture market environment in Shanghai and the unique political social language environment in the occupied areas men.In the second chapter, articles on science and detective stories are taken as subjects to study. Through the specific study on three different themes on "war", "common science knowledge in daily life", "detective stories", I put forward my opinion that although the mixture of scientific enlightenment stand to "infuse common knowledge" and the view of "scientism" has become the mainstream in such writing forms, the complexity and limit of the "enlightened modernism" are also revealed in the magazines.
