Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of 19th century in Britain , created by Charlotte Bronte .Based on the analysis of the background of Victorian Age, this dissertation attempts to explore the initiation theme and its constitutes of this work and how the initiation theme is visualized, in order to comment on the status and influence of the work.Initiation, as universal culture phenomena and important individual experience in human life ,provides infinite imagination for literature creation ,so it is a everlasting literary theme .Bildungsroman ,the novel of initiation ,is a novel whose principal subject is the moral ,psychological ,and intellectual development of a usually youthful main character.Jane Eyre is a typical bildungsroman in terms of its structure and intention. The novel shows originality in character setting ,plot arranging , environment and narration.The individual initiation is the subject of Jane Eyre .In order to become mature in thought and mind ,Jane Eyre pursues the love for family and the love for God . At the same time ,the particular feelings and experience enrich the subject Jane Eyre continues the focus of female maturation since 18th century and reflects the feeling and social spot of female ,but it is different from novels of initiation of 18th century .Charlotte Bronte endues her heroine with humanity value and portrays her as (?) dependant person .So the subject of female maturation is serve for the theme of human initiation .
