A Study Of Gaoping Dialect Phonologica Of Shanxi Province

Gaoping country lies in the south-east part of Shanxi Province, west-south part of Taihang moutain. It borders on lingchuan country to the esat, qinshui congtry to the west, zezhou country of jincheng to the south, changzhi and zhangzi country to the north. The area of Gaoping is 946 square kilometers,and the population is 478,000.Gaoping dialect belongs to the Jin sut-dialect. There is twenty years since Jin dialect is divided from the northern Mandarin Chinese. Iirong, Hou Jingyi and Wen Duanzheng have made great progresses in Jin dialect.The material they used focus on the middle of Shanxi and south of Shanxi .But they use little material of Gaoping.Through field work, investigate Gaoping dialect, record it widely for the first time and analyze the phonological characteristics of Gaoping dialect.Meanwhile, from the diachronic view, conclude the diachronic evolutionary rules of Gaoping dialect.Promote the study of Shanxi dialect and contribute to the study of the regional society, culture, folklore and history of Gaoping.The paper is totally divided into 6 chapter:The first chapter is preface.lt mainly shows the geography, population, co-partner of prounciation, the phoneticsymbol sign and the commonly summarize of Gaoping.The second chapter is the analisis of the phonological system of Gaoping dialect. First it shows the initials, finals and tone of Gaoping dialet, the tone sandhi, rhotacized vowels and Neutral. There is 19 initials, 42 finals, 5 tones. The 42 finals have 6 rhotacized vowels. Neutral tone appears on the modal particles auxiliaries, suffixes and reduplicated words.The third chapter compare the phonology with middle ancient Chinese. The chapter focuses on the connection of Gaoping phonological analysis and Qieyun phonological system. It also explains some additional words. The 19 initials of Gaoping dialect come from "Bang" "Pang" "Bing" "Ming" of ancient Chinese. For example, [p] comes from "Bang" and "Pang" initials; [p'] comes from "Pang" and "Bing" initials; [m] comes from "Ming" initial and so on. Meanwhile, we may conclude evolutionary rules about the initial of ancient Chinese in Gaoping dialect.
