Baoji located in the west of Guanzhong, Shangxi province, whose dialect belongs to the west branch of the Guanzhong dialect within official language of central plains.There were three waves in the studies on the dialects of the Shangxi region (especially on Guanzhong dialect). During these studies, Baoji dialect just was studied as a part of Guanzhong dialect, so that it hadn't been studied more overall and deeper.With the guide of the theories of the Chinese dialectology, phonology, phonetics and contrast linguistic, the author described the properties of phonetic system of Baoji dialect basing on the first-hand materials. Besides, the author does the research by the method combining determination and ration, description and explanation, diachronic and synchronic. Then he exposes the regular properties behind the Baoji on special chapters as so to have a more overall and deeper recognition to Baoji dialect.This paper is composed of seven parts:In the first part, the author gives a brief introduction to the geography and history of Baoji, and he shows us the purpose and the meaning of his study. At the same part, the trains of though, the methods of study, as well as the origins of the material are included.In the second part, the system of the initial of a syllable, the final of a syllable, and tone in Baoji dialect are described.From part three to part five, the author focuses on the properties of the phonetic system of Baoji dialect from the initial and the final of a syllable, as well as tone separately. In the sixth part, the reasons of the properties are analyzed.The last part shows some worth phonetic phenomenon in Baoji dialect. Then the author points out the emphasis of the study on the Baoji dialect in the future.
