The Qing Dynasty is a resurgence dynasty in the history of Chinese calligraphy. The rise of epigraphy led to the rapid development of inscription calligraphy school. The new models to learn from follows the example of the target initiated the new skills and techniques and aesthetic pursuit. Have stimulated the creation of art of calligraphies greatly. Under its influenced, groups of calligraphists emerged to send calligraphists in the tablet Improved from inheritation to innovation, the calligraphy has retrieved the declining trend that went from bad to worse after Song Dynasty. The rise and establishment of the theory of calligraphy made it possible from calligraphists to carry on bold tries and practices. As a result, famous calligraphists emerged in each field. So, various kinds of books body has everybody distinguished of a batch of attainments. Zhao Zhiqian is one of the representative figures of this resurgence period. His attainments in calligraphy are in many aspects: Zhen, Cao, Zhuan and Li (which are different schools of calligraphy). He was too much gifted and made many creations. He inherited the unique feature in calligraphy of North Wei Dynasty, and spread it into another two fields of calligraphy. He opened up a new way of novel style, produced rich works of modern taste, and became the leading figure of calligraphy in late Qing Dynasty. For this point, he himself was modest and reluctant to admit, but his contamporaries failed to fully understand. Adoping the research methods like textual research, comparison and analysis, this thesis will have an overall study of Zhao's life of art, source of his style, calligraphy theory, his contribution and achievements. Firsty, I will talk about his unconventional calligraphy style, produced under the influence of Bao's theory "Chong Bei Yi Tie" Secondly, I'll make a comparism between Zhao and his contemporaries, to show Zhao's inner spirit. Thirdly, I'll talk about his creations for the inscription calligraphy and his important role and location in the callingraphy history of Qing Dynasty.
