| With the influence of western opera, and on the basis of a comprehensive study of our traditional national opera, rap music and folk songs at the beginning of 20th century, we have finally formed our own new national opera at the eve of the foundation of People's Republic of China. Two different artistic styles have gradually been formed with the development of new opera, and obvious imbalance occurred between them as the progress of age.Taking these two artistic styles as the starting point, and taking "The Daughter of the Party" and "Savage Land", which are two representative operas in new era, as examples, the thesis gives a detailed analysis of their different artistic styles, and discusses their inheritance from traditional operas and the innovation of new operas. A comprehensive investigation of the reasons behind the imbalance is also made from the perspective of culture.The whole thesis is composed of five parts:Introduction: It is a brief discussion of the relations and differences between traditional opera and new opera. Two different artistic styles in the development of opera in China are also introduced.Chapter One: This chapter describes the evolution of new opera, and illustrates the two different artistic styles and their imbalance in development with the exemplification of the development of operas.Chapter Two: This chapter gives a detailed case study of the different artistic styles which are represented in the operas "The Daughter of the Party" and "Savage Land", and studies the artistic achievements and artistic value that we got in the development of opera in new era.Chapter Three: Based on the detailed analysis of the culture before 1980s andthe culture after 1980s, the chapter studies the development of China's new opera in these two ways, and discusses the influences of the pluralistic concept of culture on the pluralistic development of opera.Conclusion: It is a brief summary of the whole thesis.
