| Ye Zhaoyan and his works constitute a complicated existence in the contemporary literature world. He himself has a dual character of both a writer and a scholar. He is good at exploring the material from history and integrates his own reading accumulation to the creation of the novel; his novel incorporates the pioneer's color and the common people's color together. Not only its theme but the narration techniques is quite complex. It has kernels of the traditional story and is practicing the most pioneering novel narration. More than one critics has pointed out Ye Zhaoyan and his works are the treasures in the contemporary literature world, but it is pity that a great deal of relative comments still have problems of simply classifying he and his works. Therefore, this paper tends to bring the traditional quality and the modern spirit in Ye' work into an entity so as to have a re-understanding to his creation. While make a detailed analysis, the paper introduces the concept of "miscellanies" instead of "story", thereby explains the literature themes coexisting of popularity and elegance and the stylistic color interweaving with tradition and pioneering. Miscellanies originated from "street gossip" which has an extremely wide content. Before the birth of modern journalism, it only provides materials to novel creation without independent existing form itself. With the rising of modern journalism, miscellanies gradually shake off its reliance on novel and obtain typical style of journalese. And its definition begins to have a dual connotation of both sociology and stylistics. Such changes do not weaken its combination with novel at narration; on the contrary, it gives more experimental room for the development of the novel style. The close relationship between miscellanies and novels promotes the flourishing of miscellanized novels in the whole world. Either the traditional realism novels or the modernism novels has obvious tastes of miscellanies. There are lots of Chinese novelist who have borrowed miscellanies to their writing, but Ye Zhaoyan is the most typical one. His miscellanized novels are mainly created in 1990s. This paper comments on Ye Zhaoyan's miscellanized creation characteristics in his novels in 1990s. The introduction part deals with the relationship between miscellanies and literature, and then introduces the miscellanized characteristic in Ye Zhaoyan's novels in 1990s. The main body of the thesis analyze three problems specifically: first, it's the miscellanized phenomenon in Ye Zhaoyan's novel creation, including miscellanization in both the topic and the narration. Second, it is miscellanies' special and diversified meaning endowed by Ye Zhaoyan and the accordingly produced elegy tone. Ye Zhaoyan is well in reverting the old miscellanies stories to various pondering topics. The depicting of the real embassy of these topics reflects modern people's loss of values in the time dislocation. Using miscellanies to narrate history is another theme of Ye Zhaoyan's miscellanized novels. In these novels, miscellanies not only provides a narrating room with a strong folk culture perspective, but anther history writing style different from orthodox history narration. Anyway, Ye Zhaoyan's miscellanized novels express the seeking of the lost time, and form a strong elegy tone in atmosphere. This tone is represented in three aspects: using past tense to narrate time; the narrators' retrospect when telling stories; and the desolate black tone through the whole novel. Third, it is the experimental color followed by miscellanies' entering in novels. This includes many aspects, such as the repetition in narrating, proselization and essaylization in structure; the interaction of popularity and elegy, of the false and the true in a whole. The conclusion part generally compares Ye Zhaoyan's miscellanized novels to many other novels of the same genre in 1990s, finds out their universality and peculiarity and summaries Ye Zhaoyan's unique value in literature world as a writer and scholar.
