This thesis reviews Los Angeles's development from a regional central city to a global city, explores the reasons of Los Angeles's fast development, and analyzes the urban problems. Through the historical exploration on this typical case, the author attempts to summarize some beneficial enlightenment which has general significance in the formation of a global city.The outlines of Los Angeles's development are clearly discernible. For the first time, it changed from a puelo to a regional central city in southern California inl930's. And for the second time, in 1960's Los Angeles accomplished industralization and became one of the three biggest industrial centers in USA. Thirdly, Los Angeles became a global city in 1980's.In the previous two transformation, development of industry and industralization are the key factors. But the transformation to a global city relies on the high-tech industry and economic structure adjustment.As to the causes of the fast development of LA, besides the generally accepted factors such as the Federal assitance, the immigrants, the internationalizaton of the USA' economy and so on, the author also emphasizes the local humanistic spirits and the war.At the same time, fast development brings about some urban problems. Among them Social Polarisation, conflicts between ethnic and race and pollution are more severe. LA's further development depends on the successful solution of these urban problems.Based on the historical analysis, the author sums up some enlightment.lt is hoped that it is beneficial to the city development in our country.
