The up-to-date research in linguistic and language teaching shows that language teaching should be learner-centered and task-based. The major objective of language teaching is to improve the learners' communicative ability (both oral and written) so that they are able to express themselves freely in real situations. It is known to all that the traditional mode of language teaching is hard to reach the objective since there are more and more students in colleges and universities. Therefore, EFL (English as a foreign language) teachers and researchers are realizing the important role of networks in English language teaching although networks were introduced to English as a second language (ESL) classes only recently. Besides, the new College English Teaching Course Requirement suggests that the traditional teacher-centered English classroom be replaced by new mode of student-centered teaching assisted by multimedia computer and network technology. However, to date, although English learning web sites in Chinese main land are mushrooming, few modern linguistic and language teaching theories are employed, and few empirical studies have investigated the effects of networked computers on ESL student writing. This study established a mode for network-assisted EFL writing, which was based on genre analysis. An empirical study was made to check students' acceptability to the genre-based writing website and to determine whether the genre-based online writing could result in better applied writing. First and final drafts of the 30 students were scored holistically, and the number of moves of job application in the two drafts was counted and compared. The result revealed that the genre-based writing web site was accepted, and this mode of applied writing could promote better writing. It helps to arouse the students' interest in English learning and enhance their ability of self-access learning.
