This paper attempts to clarify the theory of cultural translation and to apply it to the English translation of Chinese tourism writing. In doing so, the paper attempts to explore the effective methods applied to the translation of tourism writing under the guide of the theory of cultranslation and find solutions to the problems existing in the present English versions of Chinese tourism writing in order to advance the communication and understanding of Chinese culture in the world. For these purposes, the paper, divided into five parts, deals with the following issues.Chapter One is to look back at the development of tourism in China, give the definition and classification of tourism culture, and analyze the importance and necessity of translation of Chinese tourism writing.Chapter Two is focusing on the contrastive discourse analysis between the English versions of Chinese tourism culture and the English tourism texts so as to detect the different style of representation of tourism culture in the two kinds of versions, and to provide some norms for the translation of Chinese tourist writing. By comparison, we can see differences of the two kinds of version are unique and clear.Chapter Three is a retrospection of the development of cultranslation in China and in foreign countries. Combining "the dynamic equivalence" theory given by Nida, and the contrastive discourse analysis between the English versions of Chinese tourism writing and the English tourism texts, it aims to analyze the differences and conflicts between the Chinese culture and foreign culture.Chapter Four analyses from cultranslation perspectives the three factors that are responsible for the problems and errors in the English versions of Chinese tourism writing: linguistic errors, pragmatic errors, and cultural errors.Chapter Five proposes the methods for the translation of Chinese tourist writing, such as metaphrasing, adding, omitting, blending and reconstructing. Metaphrasing used in tourism text translation refers to word for word translation. Omitting is employed when some contents are considered as redundant or inappropriate in the translated version. Blending refers to blending the linguistic structure for retaining itsfunctional impact with regard to shift forms from the source writing to the target writing. Reconstructing refers to rearranging the contents or the structure of the target writing if the source writing if badly written or unsuitable for translation.
