Translation Geography written by Professor Xu Jianzhong has developed a new field fortranslation studies and made some achievements in interdisciplinary studies. He emphasizesthat effective interaction between translation behavior and its geological environment haspopularized the dialectical relationship between globalization and localization. His study isinnovative and pioneering in terms of covering scope, theory contribution and practicability,and provides a new idea for translation study.Translation Geography raises the theory of translation geography to a higher level-thescience of translation geography, i.e. from studying geography of translation to building thediscipline of translation geography. The translation geography studies relationship betweentranslation and geography, and is a new inter-discipline between translation and geography.Specifically, it connects translation with geographical factors, and introduces results oftranslation and geography study into other related studies. By taking its mutual relation andmechanism as study objects, it strives to break traditional research model of “determinism”,examines and studies translation geography from the perspective of system theory, andanalyzes and interprets phenomena in translation geography. Translation Geography explainsobjective rules of geography theoretically, and also closely combines actual situations toilluminate various problems in practices of translation geography. Its main contents includetranslation physical geography, translation human geography, theories of translation andhuman geography as well as translation and global geography development. The theories oftranslation and human geography mainly includes translation urban geography, translationtourism geography, translation politics geography, translation culture geography, translationeconomy geography, translation nation geography, translation religion geography andtranslation behavior geography. Therefore, the theories of translation geography can beapplied in many translation fields to instruct translation practices and analyze varioustranslation phenomena.With rapid development of China tourism, more and more foreigners come to travel inChina. As a famous historical city, Chengde owns numerous cultural and historic relics andunique natural scenery, which attract a lot of foreign tourists, so more and more informationshall be expressed in English. Therefore, tourism texts translation becomes more and moreimportant. Due to influence of Danxia landform and Hongshan culture, Chengde has uniquegeographical environment different from other cities, this paper tries to discuss how toexpress introductions and scenery spots in tourist information and Chinese culture to foreigntourists more accurately in accordance with theories of translation geography by takingChengde tourism texts Chinese to English translations for example. This paper includes six parts. Chapter One is the introduction, which mainly explainsstudy background, significance and whole frame. Chapter Two concludes current conditionsof domestic and foreign tourism texts translation in terms of theory of cross-culturalcommunication, adaptation theory, teleology and relevance theory. Chapter Three is the theoryframe of this paper, which mainly discusses definition, main contents and basic opinions oftranslation geography. Chapter Four introduces definition, function of tourism texts anddifferences of Chinese and English tourism text features in detail. Chapter Five is the subjectof this paper, which introduces many Chinese to English examples of Chengde tourism textstranslation and analyzes them in terms of language, culture and communication to explore thesignificance of this theory in guiding and applying tourism texts translation as well as theprinciples that translators shall abide by. Chapter Six is the conclusion, which sums up thewhole paper and puts forward suggestions and expectations for future studies.This paper mainly analyzes translation for Chengde tourism texts based on man-landrelationship and cultural theory in translation geography. The study conclusions are madeaccording to case analysis and step-by-step demonstrations with the hope that the conclusionscan provide references for the translation of China’s tourism texts. Meanwhile, it is also anexploration for translation geography, but its conception and conclusion remain not mature.Its purpose is to apply theories of translation geography into practice and accelerate theirdevelopment, so that the theories can be applied to more translation practices in future.
