This paper aims at the study of Mr. Ying Ruocheng's translation of common sayings in drama Uncle Doggie's Nirvana ( 《狗二爷涅槃》 ) from the perspective of dynamic equivalence theory. The translation of drama differs, to some extent, from that of other literary genres. Since a drama is to be presented to the audience, the language adopted should be easily understood on the one hand, and for the sake of the actors it should be colloquial and smooth for pronunciation on the other. Therefore, common sayings with cultural particularities underlying may impose great difficulty on drama translation. But surely it is worth studying.Eugene A. Nida has propounded the famous theory of dynamic equivalence, which emphasizes audience's response and therefore, seeks to be natural in expression and equivalent in effect, which is in concordance with drama translation, since if the translated text of a drama is not natural, it will be hard for the actors to pronounce, nor will it be immediately understood and appreciated by the audience. Cultural aspects are always tough nuts to crack in translation, especially in drama translation. Adherence to the forms of the original without considering the naturalness and meaning conveyed is not preferable, since the impact on receptors cannot be fulfilled, and then a D-E translation provides a way out for us.This paper is composed of five parts. Part one is introduction; part two deals with the characteristics of drama and theories of drama translation home and abroad; part three specifies Nida's dynamic equivalence theory; part four analyzes in details the translation of common sayings in Uncle Doggie's Nirvana; and the last part is the concluding part.
