The Western landscape oil-painting and Chinese traditional landscape painting are two quite distinct paintings of style and visual effect under different cultural ideology aesthetic concept.The causes to the disparities lie in the different aesthetic preferences: the Western oil-painting stresses "reason", accompanied with science the oil-painting becomes a medium to explore the world; while Chinese traditional landscape painting emphasizes "artistic conception", all the time conveying yeaning for spiritual homeland of scholars. They are carriers of different material based on the different culture. In aesthetic judgment and creation, Westerners, by means of oil-painting, accomplish the harmony of the physical forms in the object world, which implies the scientific and rational understanding of the subject to the object world; but Chinese, through the medium of landscape painting, indicate the self psychological harmony and pursuit the spiritual state out of the object, therefore fulfilling the spiritual communication between Man and nature and the shape of ideal character.Inevitably different culture and thought will in general affect and dominate the artistic psychology of a nation, moreover as a stable aesthetic tradition it will act on the development of literature and art. As a result, the majority of comparative study begins from the point of culture and thought, but such study often ignores the fact that painting is characteristic of visual art.According to the characteristics of painting, that is, the characteristics of visual effect model-making and space and from the aspects of their evolution the content of subject matter and technique of expression, this thesis attempts to study the differences and similarities between Western oil painting and Chinese traditional landscape painting. Attaching importance to the techniques of impression, this paper analyzes the differences of the two, and the base of their artistic thought cultural background and makes a further study on the practical significance of this study.Through the comparative study of the two, the purpose of this paper is to explore the problem of nationalization of Chinese traditional landscape painting. Nationalization will definitely be the way to the development of Chinese landscapepainting. In other words, by means of the material and painting skills of Western oil painting, so that the techniques of expression of oil painting appear to be more of Chinese cultural spirit, more appropriate to the habit of Chinese aesthetic taste and appreciation, conveying a unique value of national culture aestheticism.
