With the improvement of the economy level and the medical treatment hygiene, the trend of the advanced age of the population becomes faster. Enter the 90's, the speed that the population advanced age beyond our anticipation. The population advanced age trend makes the traditional family mode subject to the impact. How to resolve the problem becomes hot point that people research gradually. Recently, most scholars concerned with tracing back to the origin of providing for the aged or illustrated the measures of each period, but people have not yet given to enough emphasis on the cultural factor that help to pay attention to providing for the aged. I think understand which factors help to respect the elders will have the benefit for solving the problem. This article selects the Pre-Qin period as the investigating scope, clarifies the conception and system of providing for the aged, analyzes the cultural factors respecting the elders and evaluates the historical influence.The paper is divided into five parts:The first part is a preface. This part elucidates the aging of population becomes one of widespread concern of international community. Our country also faces the challenge. The trend of aging of population aggravates the family burden, which impacts our country's traditional family providing for the aged mode. How to resolve the problem becomes one of the questions that the nation needs to resolve urgently. Our country has been respecting elders so how to resolve the social question may be inspires from the historical relevant system.The second part elaborates the system and ideas of providing for the aged in the Pre-Qin period. This can be seen from a series of ancient rite. The monarch promulgated some policies to settle the problem actually, but the monarch just set an example to initiate people to obey the policies, thus passing on the main duty to each individual family. This formed our country's traditional family providing for the aged mode.The third part analyzes the cultural factors that our country values respecting the elders. The attitude to the old people is under the influence of Chinese cultural spirit of ancient, as a result having the typical race characteristic. First, through a cultural heritage and research of history, I think in the prehistoric age, our country had been akind of system of age ratings, which formed the cultural foundation of respecting the old. Second, in our country's earlier civilization period, monarch and teacher developed from different way so nation paid attention to develop the function of the school and made it become the assistant who enlightened the people by education, ruled the people after country appeared. The country unified esteeming teachers with respecting the old, which further pushed the society to provide for the aged. Third, the conception of seeing the family and the country as a whole made the country relate filial piety to parents with respecting to the old. At the same time, the nature of family made it have the ability to undertake the mission. Finally, our ancient country usually saw governing the country and managing domestic affairs as equal. So they thought if one person showed filial obedience to parents at home, he also could honor the monarch in country. Exactly such understanding made monarch advocate the filial piety in the family to attain the purpose of maintaining governing, which fostered the social providing for the aged.The fourth part analyzes the influence of the idea upon emphasizing the providing for the aged. Respecting the old people is one of the traditional virtues in our country. We must affirm its active meaning, but it also makes people take this as the name to stubborn the old ideas, which results in the stagnation of the society.
