Studies On Idioms And Chinese Dictionary Complication

On the basis of previous studies on idioms, the characteristics of idioms are illustrated in thefirst part of this thesis .They are mainly consisted of the following aspects â‘ Meanings of idiomsare integrated and metaphorical.â‘¡Structures of idioms are gestalt as well as flexible.â‘¢Degradation of idiom emotion.â‘£Idiom are historical. Then the differences between idiom andChinese phrases analyzed, which are represented in the aspects of gestalt of structure, forms ofconstruction, characteristics of style and so on. The second part of the thesis mainly surveys 447items in idiom compilation of Modern Chinese Dictionary. From the relationships betweenlexicology and lexicography, the these conveys some problems involved in compilation of idiomsin Chinese dictionary, including division of different items, explanation of meaning, notes of styleand so on. The merits of idiom complication in Modern Chinese Dictionary are acknowledged andsome defects of idiom complication in Modern Chinese Dictionary are pointed out as well. Theaspects which should be paid more attention to in the compilation of idiom are the following ones:collection of the whole form of idioms, coordination of arranging words and morphemes, disposalof idioms in different form, addition of items for idioms, appropriated adoption of terms inmeaning explanation as well as precise standard for style judgment. These studies on idioms willcontribute to better compilation of idioms in dictionary compilation.
