Commentary About The Nationality Of Xianxinghai's Polyphony Compostion

Xianxinghai----a musician who was born poor and had experienced a lot of life's frustrations. When he saw the deep troubles China was in 1930s, he took part in the progressive musical battle which gave its first place to anti—Japanese War and rescuing the country from being destroyed after he returnde China from his study in France. He persisted steadfastly in the tradition of revolutionary new music and made indelible contributions to develop this tradition through his ingenuities and efforts. He is another great public musician after Nie'r in modern history of China. It seemed that the argument of Chinese music being a harmony music has long been estabished, but as the research went on about traditional Chinese music, we found that it also bears the charater of "polyphony"in different degrees in some—parts, this reflects the multi—voice tune thought which has been existed and lasted for a long time by ways of intuition. At Present ,"polyphony", a technique in western music composing, is nothing new ours, but in the years of Xianxinghai, it was only a strange loanword for most people. It was these public musicians combined the western composing techniques with our national music and created a series of compositions which are full of intense modern spirits and much ingenuities. They introduced this specialized technique, made it more suitable for and well—accepted by the public and gradually developped it perfectly. This article tries to analyze Xian's compositions through his techniques in "polyphony"composing, so as to argue his national characteristics in music comprehensively and thorougbly. Meanwhile, in comparing the"polyphony"composing between Huang zi and Ding shande,and in summarizing the apply and development of "polyphony"skill,Xian played an important transitional role. All these have a great significance towards researching the development and composing of mational"polyphony". In his music, Xianxinghai strongly proved the broad meanings and contents in specialized techniques, that is, one should not only know the techniques in world music, but also fully understand the excellent musical heritages of our own nation. His compositions of national music proved that the historical law of development of art and the excellent national music are the fundations of creating new public music. Xianxinghai contributed all his wisdom and labour to the course of national music through indomitable struggles all his life, and made glorious achievements. His immense achievements are the most precious and immortal fortunes in our musical culture. 2005 is the year when Xianxinghai has been born for 100 years and died for 60 years. It's my high honor to express my deep admiration with this article to this great musician.
