"Requiem" is one of the few concert works of Verdi. In this work of religious genre, Verdi's artistic concepts in the late period, his create experiences, along with the perception of life, had been clearly reflected through a series of music expression means such as melody, harmony, polyphony, and band writing, so that whole work has a unique effect.After a brief introduction of the composer's biography and general creative features, based on text analysis, this article developed a more in-depth, detailed and comprehensive study on polyphonic techniques and polyphonic thinking in Verdi's "Requiem". Observed both the phenomenon of combining polyphonic techniques and dramatic language of music and the particular expression form of polyphonic thinking in this work, thinking about how they could help the composer to organize music thoughts, arrange texture, shape the image and deepen the theme. Author believes that the systematic study and in-depth discussion of this issue will be helpful to further explain the function of polyphonic thinking during composition.
