WuYueChunQiu is a work of unofficial history written by Zhao Ye,aConfucianist in Donghan Dynasty. It is mainly about the event of strugglingfor hegemony between two states—Wu and Yue. Because of mythological andlegendary content, it was not valued by the Confucian scholars who hadorthodox ideas. Since Qing Dynasty, the readers began to pay attention to itand made deep exploration in the fields of textual research, collecting the lostmaterial edition and its volume. Modern scholars have broadened the scope oftheir research to the aspects of thought and art of WuYueChunQiu andachieved a lot. In this article which bases on the fruits of former research, ittries to take the comprehensive study by means of comparing with theprevious history material, so it has peculiarities of clearing historical points aswell as possessing forward position in contemporary study. It has not onlyinheritance but also creation.This article has four chapters. The first is about introduction of editionof WuYueChunQiu. After sorting out the material about Zhao Ye's, HuangfuZun's and Yang Fang's works, it points out today's WuYueChunQiu is reallyfrom Huangfu Zun's work without his annotations. In the second chapter, itexplores thoughts of WuYueChunQiu and points out that it has not only strongidea of revenge but also ideas of advocating Confucian moral and singularity.In the third chapter, using Gou Jian, Fu Chai and Wu Zixu as examples, itanalyses contribution on characterization of WuYueChunQiu. The fourthchapter explores Wu's values on historical science and literature.In a word, WuYueChunQiu has great effect in later ages in respects ofthought,art and value.
