With the changes in the American immigration policy, especially the enforcement of Immigration Act of 1965, Chinese from the mainland, Hong Kong .Taiwan and other places of the world immigrated into America after World War â…¡. Great changes have taken place in both the quantity and the quality of Chinese Americans. Chinese immigrants have changed the quondam population structure of the Chinese communities. As a result, Chinese communities have changed greatly. The thesis is based on the works of American scholars especially the Chinese American scholars and the findings of the U.S. government, and directed by historical materialism and the research methods in sociology and statistics, the thesis is composed of preface, text which is consisted of two parts, conclusion and appendix.Part One which analyzes the Chinese American population which includes four aspects. The first aspect summarizes the changes of the American immigration policy towards Chinese Americans. A series of the immigration acts brought the Chinese immigrants into a new period. The second aspect describes the changes of the Chinese American population and explores the characteristics and the causes of the changes of Chinese Americans by examining and analyzing its region source, sex, age, etc. The third aspect analyzes the improvement of the population quality by a comparative study of education, technological background, career and participation in the management of state affairs. The forth aspect investigates the characteristics of Chinese Americans' geographical distribution and movement.
