On the road of modern Chinese poetry development, Wen Yiduo made the epoch contribution with his careful poem and the profound idea. This thesis studied Wen Yiduo from the point view of poetic images which included choice, transformation and content. Wen Yiduo had studied arts for many years in U.S. He was so extremely sensitive to the color that he observed the world with painter's vision, spread the text with painter's skill. In the earlier time, he constructed a "red" image world of beauty and love. In the later, he emphasized the "black" image world of "dying", "ghost" etc. He pursued the ideal with "red" images, deepened the text's modern meaning with "black" images. The "red" and the "black" were all sharp colors and the "black" especially represented the poet's strong emotions. In addition to, Wen Yiduo was effected by the western modern culture which made him dare to face the black and ugly aspects in life. From "red" to "black", it showed the change of the poet's culture and aesthetic judgment. This thesis was divided into four parts:The introduction briefly introduced the reason that Wen Yiduo chose the "black" image and introduced the conception of this thesis.The first part: The explanation of "death" image. The article first made an inquiry into Wen Yiduo's death consciousness. From the "red candle" to the "black death" and the "burial song", he expressed the different understanding of the "death". The "death" image of earlier time was shadowy but aesthetic, the later had the fresh repentance and the self-review's consciousness.
