Lead exposure is a major public health problem worldwide.Chronic low levels of Pb exposure is associated with a variety of cognitive and neurobehavioral dysfunction. The results in clinical and animal research have suggested that early exposure to low levels of Pb can produce long-lasting cognitive impairments.Although scientists make great effort to find the treatment of lead poisoning and the agonism of lead exposure, the therapy in clinic is related to the many side effect. Therefore, try to find a safe and high effective medice is nessisary. An experiment is designed to investigate the antagonism of Quqianling against the impairment of learning and memory induced by lead in rats.We investigate the effects of chronic low level lead exposure(0.05% of lead acetate in their drinking for 28 days)on the spatial learning and memory of rats by morris water maze, and the antagonism of three dose of quqianling (low, middle, and high quqianling: 3.47g/kg, 6.93g/kg, 13.86g/kg, after lead exposure by mouth everday)to the impairment of learning and memory ability induced by lead in rats. Our results revealed low level of Pb exposure significantly impaired spatial reference memory and spatial working memory, but not spatial learning in the Morris water maze. We found quqianling can significantly attenuate the lead intoxication ,which significantly improve the performance of the rats on Pb exposure in the Morris water, the middle dose have the best effect in three dose of Quqianling. Additionally, exposure to 0.05% Pb acetate resulted in significant increases in blood Pb level, however, three dose of Quqianling can decrease blood Pb concerntration in the rats by Pb exposure. These results suggest that chronic low level exposure to Pb during adult stage may impair memory functions and Quqianling is antagonistic to the impairment of memory ability induced by lead.
