Rural shifting population is not only a main index of the social economy and development, but also a very important social phenomenal in the state-transformed period from traditional agriculture society to the modern industrial society, the mobility of rural population in France had undergone a very special proceedings because of all kinds of reasons. It covered two periods which shared 1850s. Although these two periods were something alike, there were much differences in many aspects . so far, as far as the research of France's agriculture is concerned, the realm of history at home and abroad mostly has a preference for the development and signs about the economy and politics, as to rural shifting population, only has a few records and lack of systematic and special research. The whole article includes six parts, which tells about the main historical proceedings, causes, characteristics and influences of the France's rural shifting population from the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The article also argues about some questions worthy of being considered.The first part is the preface, which introduces the main situation about the study of France's agriculture in the history realm at home and abroad, as well as the purpose of writing this article.The second part describes the traditional social life in the France's country. Analyses the conventional land policy and being confined commune life.
