On The Acceptance Of Du Fu's Poetry By Xu Wei

This dissertation mainly focuses on the acceptance of Du Fu' s poetry by Xu Wei. Taking Du Fu' s poetry as a frame of reference, we discussed the cause of formation of Xu Wei's individual characteristic of creating and the relation among personality, age, and traditional culture.The dissertation contains three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.In introduction: we argue against the traditional viewpoint that Xu Wei's poetry imitated Li He. Although Li He's poetry style deserted a certain influence on Xu Wei, it wasn' t the foremost one. It is the result of the controversy between the Gong-An school and the reactionists during late Ming dynasty to emphasize unilaterally Li He's influence on Xu Wei, and it can't reflect the whole status of Xu Wei's poetry. In fact, Xu Wei, who was adhering to his own individual characteristic of creating, was also an outstanding successor of traditional. Xu Wei's poetry combined strangeness and legitimacy together. A lot of ancient famous works of poet, especially Du Fu' s poetry, also had influenced on Xu Wei's literary theory and individual characteristic of creating.In the main body, we make a detailed analysis of the influence from Du Fu to Xu Wei. The analysis based on three aspects: their life, thought and writing. The main body can be divided into three parts:Part one: the comparison of their lifes. Firstly, I point out that Xu Wei sympathized with Du Fu because they had alike life experience, and this is the psychological foundation that Xu Wei was influenced by Du Fu' s poetry. Secondly, analyse the different age and culture background of Du Fu and Xu Wei, especially the differences of ethos and Parnassus. This is the most important reason that leads to difference appearance of Du Fu' s poetry and Xu Wei' s works. Finally, though Xu Wei and Du Fu in different ages, they led similar life and creation experience. This lead to their similarity in emotion and aesthetic interesting.Part two: the comparison of their thoughts. Firstly, Xu Wei andDu Fu has a common personality characteristic--"freedom" .
