T.S. Eliot is one of the important and influential peots and critics in the modernistmovements of the 20th century. His poetic theory is the precedent of New Criticism and isthe meditator of the transition from the traditional poetics to the modern poetics of 20thcentury. One of his most important theoretical is Tradition and Individual Talents, whichhad become a world classic and had its global impact. This article involves the "historicalconsciousness" theory, "impersonal" Theory and the "objective correlative" theory, whichhave a high level of theoretical and practical value and have a greater impact on thesubsequent creation of the poet. At that time the English poetry had been dominated bythe freedomg of styles and lyrical styles generated by the free verse revolution andImagist movement and the mainstream style was still teh romantic peotry which was inpursuit of excessive freedom. Eliot also made effort to prove the correctness of histheoretical and usefulness through his works as Wasteland. Eliot's poetry theory hasaffected the 1930's and 1940's Chinese modern poetry including the theory and writing ofYe Gongchao, Xu Zhimo, He Qifang, Bian Zhilin, Mudan and Xindi. Due to theenormous cultural differences, Eliot's impact on China is unique and even there was aphenomenon of "misunderstanding" by the Chinese poets and critics.
