Owing to the extreme limitations of the extent and depth of the current studies at home of Guangdong Export Paintings (G.E.P.), there are still many problems existing, especially, the task of macro-study.The decline of G.E.P. (D.G.) is a special period, and as a phenomenon, it could be used as a starting point and a focus for an instructive approach in a way of micro-study to G.E.P both lengthwise and breadthwise. From the perspective of culture geneticism, many of the historical facts in the second half of 19th century are related to D.G., some even propelled directly the mutagenicity of D.G., i.e., the sharp contrast between the achievement of G.E.P. in its golden age and the steep decline at its final stage, which relates closely to the dissemination of western paintings in China. Based on the above, the thesis probes into the influence on D.G. from various historical facts through the perspective of sociology, compares the cultural essence of Chinese civilization characterized by perception and that of western civilization characterized by reason from another perspective of art and philosophy, and then draws the conclusion that the conflicts between these two civilizations are the external causes and deep roots leading to D.G. At the same time, referring to info-mode taxology, the thesis attains an in-depth analysis on the cultural transform contained in D.G. in modes including mirror-image mode, reversion mode, deviation mode, reticulation mode, polarization mode etc. In this process, a corresponding holograph is also established to disclose the cultural variation concealed like regurgitation and aberrance and the cultural value for reference.Through this focus on D.G, a comprehensive and proper overview on the significance of G.E.P. becomes approachable, and that is exactly what this research aims at.
