With the acceleration of the pace of globalization and China's fusion with world's trends after its entry into the WTO, "let the world know China" hold the same important position as the urgent need "let China know the world". As an important intermedia in international communication, it's effective and practical for Chinese documentary to turn to the international market and actively participate in the competition on condition that the majority of Chinese media are busy in reforms and there lacks a mature market for documentaries. The great achievement Chinese documentaries have made in the international arena is obvious to all. They not only claim many awards in all kinds of international TV festivals but also do well in the international documentary trade. The phenomenon of "indigenous documentary popular abroad" has attracted a lot of attention in academic & practical circles. Although many scholars have conducted considerable research on the issue of documentary internationalization, the research in this regard rarely base on case study on a governmental media from the perspective of politics, economy and culture.Located in landlocked Southwest China, Sichuan TV Station is plagued by the deficiency in capital, talents and equipment. However, thanks to its far-sight, audacity and unique business strategy, the documentaries of Sichuan TV Station (DSTV) do an excellent job in international marketing, achieving both economic and social benefits. In addition, in the process of "Go global", DSTV appropriately handles the relationbetween economically gearing to the international practice and culturally preserving national identity, which is against the current tide of completely conforming to the western criterion in choosing theme, producing and publicizing. DSTV set a good model for Chinese documentaries to participate in the international competition. Thus, in this thesis, based on the practice of DSTV, I will focus my attention on the internationalization of Chinese documentary. This thesis makes a comparative study on DSTV's international existence strategies. It stressed the market-orientated awareness of DSTV in text producing, publicizing, management and staff training. In addition, the oneness and otherness of western China's documentaries are construed from the perspective of national cultural identity. "Go global" refers to have a good handle of similarities and differences among different nation's documentaries instead of blindly catering to the international standard. Besides, this thesis makes analysis to the documentary internalization from the perspective of medium ecology, medium politics and cultures so as to highlight the vital function of documentary internalization in globalization, localization and cross-cultural communication.
