A Preliminary Study On The Techniques Of Producing Porcelain In Tang And Song Dynasties In Sichuan Basin

The industry of producing porcelain of Tang and Song dynasties in Sichuan basin is very important in ancient China. Firstly the writer looked back the general conditions of the study for ancient techniques of producing porcelain in China and expatiated on the achievements and deficiencies for the study on the techniques of producing porcelain in Tang and Song dynasties in Sichuan basin. Secondly the writer briefly narrated the discoveries of green-porcelain kilns, white-porcelain kilns and black-porcelain kilns and emphasized on the basic content of the important kilns. Above all based on the workshop remains, kilns and implements discovered, the writer analyzed the techniques of producing porcelain including the shaping techniques , decorating methods and sinter processes. After that the writer searched after the similarities and differences among the techniques of producing porcelain of the three systems in Tang and Song dynasties in Sichuan basin. Then the writer tried to divide into six stages for the techniques of producing porcelain. Finally we can attain the target of understanding the characters of the techniques of producing porcelain in Tang and Song dynasties in Sichuan basin and exploring the origin and development.Through the study of this article we can understand that the shaping techniquesamong the three systems were similary. A factor of identifying porcelain of Sichuan basin was the regional characters of porcelain bone and glaze.In decorating aspects colouring was most important for green-porcelain. Carving and printing were principal methods for white-porcelain and the decorating of black-porcelain was finished by sintering. Decorating methods and contents were various in different periods. Sintering processes were very vital to researching the techniques of producing porcelain in Tang and Song dynasties in Sichuan basin and the ancient workers renovated the techniques of sintering constantly through various ways.The industry of producing porcelain in Sichuan basin included two systems.-south system in Tang dynasty and the five dynasties and north system in Song dynasty. We should attach great importance to some new techniques used in Sichuan basin in Tang and Song dynasties, which were very important for the development of the techniques of producing porcelain in ancient China.
