Within years the Crazy English Movement has swept throughout the whole China, then spread over to the other countries in Southeast Asia and even into the English speaking countries, causing a great sensation throughout the English teaching and learning field. How did Li Yang, a non-English major from a remote college in the backward Northwestern part of China, bring about this huge turbulent storm? How did he bewilder those tremendous crowds of young people into shouting English like mad? This paper tries to offer a rational analysis of his Crazy English from both philological and psychological perspectives. First it gives a general introduction to the widespread phenomena of Crazy English and some of its vital theories. Then it makes analyses from the perspectives of non-intelligence factors and success psychology. Furthermore, it illustrates its potential application to the vast field of English teaching and learning in China. This paper also attempts to point out the major drawbacks of Crazy English from more rational perspectives at last.
