Fangyan (《方言》) , which is written by Yang Xiong at the Han dynasty, is regarded as the earliest dialect vocabulary-compared works in the world. Guo Pu of Jin dynasty has an annotation to some words of Fangyan, which is helpful to the history of Chinese vocabulary. This paper thinks of Fangyan itself and its annotation as language material, and reanalyses it in the eyes of the two-syllabled words. On the basis, the paper classifies, induces and compares the two-syllabled words in Fangyan and its annotation, and finds out the features of from the one-syllabled to the two-syllabled in the development of Chinese vocabulary.Guo'Pu's annotation is the spoken language. From the compare between an annotation word and a word to be explained, we have found out two features. The first is that a two-syllabled word come into being because of the dialects' difference. The second is that the social habit generates the two-syllabled.During reading Fangyan and its annotation, we have noticed some faults in Hanyu Dacidian. The paper has corrects some faults in it.
