Jiaguan(adding another office title to one's added official title) is a commonphenomenon in ancient Chinese official system, which begins to change during the ThreeKingdoms period. The government adds some general titles or official to some people inorder to realize some specific aims such as lifting their ranks. This thesis analyzessystematically the Jiaguan during the Three Kingdoms period and Western Jin dynasty,disclosing the types and reasons of Jiaguan and making the conclusion that Jiaguan has directrelation with the development of the official system. During the Three Kingdoms period thegeneral titles begin to be used to praise someone, which continues to develop in the WesternJin dynasty and gradually becomes a special official to showing official's rank. Other officialtitles such Shizhong,Sanqichangshi etc continue to be awarded to some official titles andhave new political meaning, which has the direct relation with the change of the officialsystem. Jiaguan as the composition of official system can flexibly regulate the regular gradeof official position and realize the reasonable arrangement of official system, which has veryactual political meaning. Through studying these official titles awarded to the other officialtitle, we can understand the official system more deeply so as to understand the political andsocial circumstances more deeply.
