An Elementary Study About The Chinese Modern Biographies In The 1930s

The modern biographies are the literary products which were written by the writings in the vernacular in the first half of the 20th century.They recorded a person's life experience, showed the oneness and inherent conscientious of protagonists of the biographies, and had modern thinking in works.The modern biographies had made remarkable progress in the 1930s through the enlightenment, advocacy and practice of Liang Qichao , Hu Shi,etc. But there is little study about them today. So, this paper is a try. My goal is clear up the Chinese modern biographies' true view and delimit its literature history coordinate on the basis of occupying firsthand information as many as possible in the 1930s.There are five styles about the Chindese modern biographies in the 1930s. (l)Long autobiographies. Their space are longer, the character of story are strong and have strong life intuition and introspection consciousness; (2)Miniature autobiographies. Their space are shorter and had clear narrating focal point to be conspicuous intention; (3)General biographies. There are the distinct consciousness to their era, and use traditional literary style such as "narrated stories in order of time"; (4)Co-biographies. Ther are popular content and remarkable era consciousness; (5)Critical biographies. They stress on the academic nature, but lack of the literary character. The vigorous growth of Chinese modern biographies in the 1930s generated the background of modern individuality. Of course , theory prepare and writers' realistic motive are also promoted the vigorous growth of the modern biographies.The modern biographies in the 1930s had went the rising phase in the history of the modern biographies and have formed the relatively prosperous situation. However, at the same time, they want lirterary character and classic works. Their dilemma have three aspects mainly as follows: conflicting when standardized of consciousness and era of individual character; waving between historical attribute and literature expectation; wandering between "true" principle and unhonesty writing actually.I think that the modern biographies of China in the 1930s are the "bridge", which made Chinese modern biographies maturity. We discuss them not only can carry the research work to a step forword, but can help us deepen the comprehensive to modern society of China. And more important, the research will winden our vision to the Chinese modern literature.
