Mozart is one of the most outstanding European composers, one of whose major creations is opera. Following the aesthetic concept "Poetry should be the obedient child of music", he took the aria as the major technique of characterization. Among the vivid roles he has created in his operas, the roles of sopranos occupy a considerably important position. Different characteristics and musical images are offered to depict roles of sopranos according to the variation of musical genres. Starting from the aesthetic concept in his creation of operas, the present thesis expounds the historical background and musical trend of the classical school that influenced his aesthetic concept, and analyses the features of his operas: characteristic of times in genres, popular, purely beautiful, ethnic and dramatic in music, and authentic in characterization. By analyzing the 58 arias adopted by 31 sopranos roles in his 22 operas, the author summarizes four types of characteristic models of soprano. The categorization could deepen our understanding of characteristics of the arias of sopranos and the value of the utilization of soprano aria in Mozart's opera creation, which would help singers better interpret Mozart's creation concepts, present the features of his opera music, and realize the expected characteristics of musical roles. The thesis consists of four parts. In the first one, Mozart's aesthetic concept is analyzed. In the second one, the characteristics of Mozart's creation of operation are explored. In the third one, the arias of the soprano roles are listed, and in the last one, four types of soprano roles are demonstrated in detail.
