Study On Bast Fiber Weave Handicraft Industry Of Southwest Region In The Tang Dynasty

The bast fiber weave handicraft industry was an important part in the ancient economic life and the indispensable necessary for life in ancient times So it could reflect the economic situation of the society, especially handicraft industry economic situation at that time directly. Through investigating the geographical distribution, characteristics, output and use of the bast fiber textile in the southwest region in the Tang Dynasty, the paper tried to discover the influence of the bast fiber weave on the Tang Dynasty and deepen the knowledge of Tang's social economy. And the present paper offered some reference suggestions for further development of textile industry in our country.Based on tribute, levy, local products and poem in this field, this study analyzed the distribution of the bast fiber weave handicraft industry in the southwest region in the Tang Dynasty, and the author summarized three fundamental features of the geographical distribution of the bast fiber weave: it was extremely vast and about 90.6% of the areas in the southwest, but was quite unbalanced, and it had close relation with development level of local economy, the distribution of the bast fiber weave handicraft industry present the positive correlation relation with economic development level.On the basis of forefathers' research cultivated land and population, the author estimated tentatively to the annual production of bast fiber textile, and drew a conclusion in about 8.6 million Duans of annual production of bast fiber textile in the southwest in the Tang Dynasty. This paper separately analyzed the taxes and corvee, residents' annual volume of consumption, commercial exchange amount of the bast fiber textile and handicraft industry demand every year in the southwest region in the Tang Dynasty. All those added up to 8.6 million duan.The paper has also probed into the special function of the bast fiber textile in the southwest in the Tang Dynasty further. Because its price lower and copper cash and goods can circulate both in the Tang Dynasty, the bast fiber textile played an important role in promoting southwest area economic interaction. In addition, it was not only the main tribute in the southwest, but also the important component of the national tribute. The bast fiber textile function was over outstanding, as follows: resist the peripheral nationality to invade, alleviate the tense situation of the finance and save the crisis of ruling.
