In Chinese language adverbs are widely used and the conditions where time adverbs appear are complex. Of all the adverbs, time adverbs, as they are related to the verbs, play a very important role: the proportion of time adverbs, judging from the quantity or from the rate of recurrence, is enormous.This paper focuses on the pre-Qin days' time adverbs, giving a general description of the development and evolution of the pre-Qin days' time adverbs and this investigations would be conducive to study on the history of the development of the Chinese lexicon .At the same time, based on making out of the outline of the pre-Qin time adverbs, the paper gives some explanation of the pre-Qin days time adverbs from the point of culture view and thought view.The paper includes VII parts. Part I is an introduction. This part gives an explanation of the meaning of doing research on this topic, the material which is used in this article , and general situation of research on this topic. Further this part gives a definition and makes a classification of time adverbs and contends that time adverbs are often used as adverbial to denote time, frequency, or order of priority of action of changing. In view of that, time adverbs are divided into three groups: denoting time, denoting frequency and denoting order of priority. And more detailed classifications are given under these three groups.Part II—part V gives a description of time adverbs that denote time, time adverbs that denote frequency and time adverbs that denote order of priority. Part VI sums up the two characteristics of Pre-Qin days. Part VII makes a survey of the development and evolution of Pre-Qin days' time adverbs.
