The thesis tries to do some textual research on the basis of tidying up the scattered materials on cognate words in "Ne" part of Shuowen in ancient Chinese books , so as to discuss the phonetic and semantic connections of cognate words. Characters in "Ne" part of Shuowen were namely the single syllable words they had recorded. We search for the cognate words of "Ne" part according to the explanations in Shuowen. If there are some words hard to find the cognate words according to Shuowen, yet they also have another meaning related with diseases, then we will search according to that meaning. Because the borrowed meaning of a character was virtually the meaning of another word it had recorded, being a central meaning, it made it possible that the character in "Ne" part of Shuowen could form a group of cognate words with the other(s). The article composes four parts.Part One tidies up the materials on cognate words in "Ne" part of Shuowen and searches for fifty-nine groups of cognate words according to Wang Li's theory in one of his writings entitled A Dictionary of Cognate Words, "Must base the ancient speech sounds during the Ante-Qin Period" and "Must the yunbu and the shengmu all be same or close" .Taking account of mostly plane search for cognate words in traditional etymology, Part Two classifies the cognate words in "Ne" part of Shuowen as three categories by the criterion "Giving priority to syllables while the grapheme works as...
