Objective: The Chinese Achievement Test(CAT) of the 7~9 Grades was preliminarily develepmented,and its items were analyzed,and its reliabilities and validities were tested.The aim of the study was to provide a measurment instrument for the Chinese performance of the 7~9 grades,the clinic diagnosis and curriculum reform.Methods: The CAT's development based on the theory of crystallized intelligence,Course-oriented and Broadly-oriented strategies and the method in the way we pay equal attention to experience and theory. The CAT contains 7 subtests, which are spelling, word, vocabulary, grammer and rhetoric,literature, reading comprehension and languge expression of the 7~ 9 grades. Through electing and testing the items,we formed CAT-A and CAT-B which were believed equal. Formal sample consists of 1008 students (511 in CAT-A and 497 in CAT-B ). In addition, 96 subjects did the parallel tests. We collected 117 subjects' academic performances. The CAT's items,reliabilities and validities were tested by the different measurement methods.Results: The statistical analyse of the sample indicates no significant difference about the quantity of the variant editions,grades and genders.The higher grade is, the higher raw score of the CAT is.The item difficulties of 76.15 % rang from 0.20 to 0.80 and the subtest difficulties rang from 0.33 to 0.70. The item discriminations of 61.36% and 60.23% are better above 0.30 in CAT-A and CAT-B correspondingly, and 81.82% and 86.36% above 0.20. The parallel reliability is 0.81. The Cronbach's α...
