A Study On Economical Development Of Shanxi In Tang Dynasty

Since new period (reform and opening-up), in the studying of social economic history of Tang Dynasty, the research of the regional economy history arouses the attention of scholars extensively. For Guanzhong area, Hebei area, Jianghan area, Changjiang Delta area, Sichuan area, even Lingnan area, Xiyu area, Hexi Corridor area etc., there are many relevant theses and special books.By contrast, the research of social economic development of Shanxi in Tang Dynasty was poor. It is not because the difficulties to look for historical data, but for our efforts are not enough. The weakness on this subject not only influences the whole understanding of social economic development in Tang Dynasty, but also the orientation of Shanxi in Tang Dynasty economy. Considering this situation, this text tries to have an initiative study of Shanxi economic development, so as to make up the blankness in this subject.The thesis is composed of introduction, text, conclusion and bibliography. The introduction explains the studying situation of Shanxi economic development in Tang Dynasty, and the topic, writing purpose of this paper.The text is composed of four chapters The first chapter briefly reviews the environment of Shanxi's economic development and states that the calm politic climate and the government's active attitude to HedongDao is helpful to Shanxi's economic development. Chapter 2 introduces in detail the development of the major economic segment. It states that Shanxi's natural environment, the increase of population and so on. The development of irrigation and the commercial crop as well as the increase of grain production, with the attention of the governor, promotes the development of the herd of horse. Chapter 3 introduces the development of handicraft industry. Metal production, salt manufacturing, textile and brewing industry make rapid progress in technology and quality. Chapter 4 discusses the prosperity of commerce, it is greatly helpful to development of the contemporary society.The conclusion points out that the regional economy of Shanxi was developed rapidly in Tang Dynasty, made great contributions to prosperity of social economy of Tang Dynasty. It is an important brilliant period on the local economic development history of Shanxi.
