As mentioned in liuxi's Interpretation in han dynasty, "painting,is to use color to make subtances appear",so from beginning on color is one of the formal laguages of Chinese painting.Mural painting is in accord with the general rules of painting,such as two-dementional space (planarcharacteristic),composition,color(tune),shape(image)etc.Color and shape not only have relatively independent function of aesthetics,but also have height of art, difficulty of technology and depth of art theory. With its elegant color structure, Mural of Yongle Temple make itself the outstanding sample of Chinese traditional painting.Itshows the height of Chinese traditional painting progressing in color art. To evaluate and to understand the progress must compositively analyse the struture and effect of color based on color conception.At first,the arcticle mainly recommend the development trend of Chinese traditional mural painting,then analyse the color of Yongle Temple mural from the aspect of the concept and three factors of color in five primary colors system,as well as the traditional structure of decorative color,so as to scientifically study the balance of complementary color, cold-warm color and color brightness. Further more,the article classify the pigments of Chinese painting,and analyse the color characteristic of Yonglegong mural with the basical properties of pigment. At last, Chaoyuantu is used for an extra example.
