The overlapping of verbs is important to Chinese grammatical rules. To provide neoteric and the Chinese history language study with some available materials and viewpoints, this paper researches into the overlapping of verbs in eight Ming HuaBen novels, adopts the means of temporal and last of time, and describes the phenomenon comprehensively.Through making the overall research for the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel, the paper classifies and sums up the types of the overlapping verbs, such as the types of mono-syllable overlapping verbs and disyllable overlapping verbs. The paper generalizes numbers of the overlapping verbs for all kinds of the types, the overlapping verbs and the frequency of used verbs, and also generalizes the fundamental condition of overlapping verbs and find out that the overlapping verbs are mostly active verbs what express the action could be continued or be reiterated.The grammatical meaning of overlapping verbs is the essential part of overlapping verbs study. For the grammatical meaning study of overlapping verbs, we integrate the study of overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel with the available achievements that the language scholars have done. Second we study the expressive function of overlapping verbs. Through some the language situations and some grammatical signs, the paper points out the action of the overlapping verbsinclude completed action and not completed action, such as the completed action of overlapping verbs is always in the narrative sentence, and the not completed action of overlapping verbs is always in the imperative sentence. The overlapping verbs express always by affirmative form, and the negatives are always in the question, rhetorical question or double negative sentence. By studying the aspect of overlapping verbs, we conclude that the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel don't have the separate aspect.The paper compares the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel with the overlapping verbs in the novel of Yuan dynasty and Qing dynasty. At the same time, we compare the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel with the modern dialect, and we discover that the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel and Wu dialect have some characters in similarity.Certainly, there are some differences between the language in Ming HuaBen novel and the actual language of that time. But the research of the overlapping verbs in Ming HuaBen novel is good to the study of neoteric and present-day Chinese language grammatical research, which is the useful supplement for the Chinese language history study and is to be valuable.
