M, a cultural figure who is difficult to fix his status precisely, had been thinking about the personal transcendence and the society's ideal end-result all his life. Latent as the trace of the exploration was, it could still be seen from one of his famous novels, the trilogy Christ and Antichrist. Those three leading characters in the worksare all "Zeus at Mount Olympus" who lived in the living world -- respectivelythe Roman emperor Y with brilliant achievements, the encyclopedic giant Vinci during renaissance and the emperor Peter who had established the modern Russia. Having renown and influence for a time, these characters had been recorded in history under the admiration of later generations. But in the narration of M's works, they all undergo sufferings difficult to break away without exception. And the cause of the suffering is a contradiction between the human's endless exploration of self-potential in this life and the spiritual transcendence that limited this pursue firmly in practice, which seems not to be mediated. And M generalized it as a conflict between the flesh and the soul. In the works, the former embodied the focus on the personal super ability, which necessarily meant and did manifest as the influence on and shape of human history. As a result, it enabled his works to transcend the moral and rational exploration far-forth and became the thought of process of human history and probe into the end-result of human being. While the latter, which was expressed through the Christianity dissimilated to different extent in historical evolution, manifested as the meaningless life and thus the appearance of terrifying in times of Y, the impassable restrictions heavily fettering Vinci fromreleasing himself, and intention of overmatching the power and attempting to control the secular affairs, just as the times of Peter's reformation. It was this contradiction that caused the personal sufferings and social disaster. What M. put forward in his works to settle this contradiction was his third testament Christianity: the Kingdom of Holy Spirit. This thought came from his thoroughly new interpretation of miracle of Incarnation and God's saying "you cannot bear them now". No matter how a strong implication of religious Utopia did the thought bear, as far as the Russian thought was concerned, which was full of antithesis at the end of nineteenth century, this probe perhaps was not unworthy to mediate the binary opposition as the third-party.
