Reverend Morison brought Christian to China first in 1807; Juntas of Christian came to China one after another since then. But the Governor of the Qing Dynasty put Closed-cloorism into practice and it was difficult for the Reverends to missionize in Canton. Further more, guiltiness made by some reverends made it harder to propagandize and missionary activities in Canton didn't get much progress at that time. So Juntas had to change their methods, such as opening charity fairs, to catch civilians' attention.The Christian opened many philanthropy enterprises since it came to Canton, especially during the period of the Republic China. It will take a deep look to the activities of Christian in Canton from the other hand in this article. So we can know the real intention of its opening benevolent undertakings in Canton. At the same time we can see how it gave a big influence to the whole charity work of Canton, and how it changed the old custom and improve the modernization in Canton.
