The character of "lacking in restricted morphological change in modern Chinese" makes some parts of Chinese tense and aspect system present its own features. In this paper, we begin with the close relationship of "Progressive" and "Continuative" categories in modern Chinese tense and aspect system, and then set up "Progressing-continuing" category. We've also divided verbs into well-defined units connected with the characteristics of tense and aspect of verbs. According to these defined unites, we have discussed that "正(在)","在", "着", "呢" cooperated with verb , verb-phrase , adjective and time-adverbial , which embodied "progressive" , "continuative" features as well as their syntactic distribution when the above four words used alone or in common. We try our best to testify it in syntactic form. We've emphasized on using in common of "正(在)","在","着","呢" in the syntactic distribution. On the basis of linguistic facts, we try to demonstrate the existence of "progressing-continuing" category in modern Chinese by exploring the restrictive corpus. Finally, we've further analysis the special usage of the above four words, in order to explain the connective and interactive relation of" progressive" and "continuative" category .
