Signs System Designing is a joint course which is booming in 20st century, it is now applied in the whole world due to it aims at affording facilities for designing and standardization. It combines graphics symbol with wayfinding information and utilized graphics symbol as an intermedium of information spreading.Thus, the designing of graphics symbol is the key of Signs System Designing, and the research of it is important for the whole Signs System.The subject of this paper is pictogram , the author tries to go deep into pictogram designing and discussing its ergonomic design principle via analyzing some valuable content. After that, these principles and essential are applied to realistic design, and also these principles and essential are beneficial to the theory of form and intension of pictogram and designing course.This paper starts with analyzing the structure of pictogram, and then penetrates into these subjects below: the relationship between the symbol of pictogram and its intension, some means and principles which are important in designing, the standardization and localization of pictogram designing. The author uses different means in different chapters, utilizes different classified methods and compares their distinctness in the research.This paper combines the method of positivism with argumentation in the research course and uses the theory of semeiology to analyze the structure of pictogram and its relation of outer circumstance. The author uses communication theory to analyze the transmit essentials of oriented information, and then applies system analysis theory in analyzing realistic content. In this way, the research aspect and the research method are integrated as a whole.According analyzes lots of examples, this paper summarizes the characteristics of pictogram designing, designing principles and applied circumstance. At the sametime of classifying, the author discusses the pictogram designing principles in different circumstances and proposes issues that should be considered in designing.And then after discussing the issue of standardization and localization, the author proposes several points in the designing process of localizing under standard.
