There is a close relationship between Chinese calligraphy and painting, the same toolconnects them. Chinese art has developed on an unique ethical characteristic road, based onthe introduction of calligraphic techniques into painting, and the convergence of calligraphyand painting. As Literati Painting sprung up, painting has been influenced intensely bycalligraphy. Converging on calligraphy, Chinese painting developed from realism to imagism.Tung Chi-chang was good at both calligraphy and painting, he studied the relationshipbetween them in theory and practice, and he comprehended their historical logic ondevelopment, therefore he created the new relationship between them. He introducedcalligraphic techniques including the brush, ink, structure and style into painting, practicedthe notion of Literati Painting, and developed the languages of calligraphic brush and ink oflandscape to a high degree. Tung established the grace, leisure and tranquility of calligraphicaesthetics, introduced the style to his painting, and created desolate, light and refined imagesof painting.
