| The thesis analyzes the background of the times of " the theory of South and North Sects" from the viewpoint of Dong Qi Chang's peculiar cultural status, which mainly reflects in two respects: firstly, being a successor of developed tradition, Dong Qi Chang was confronted with the problems of discriminating and selecting the traditional painting forms, Secondly, as an important writer in the literary world of the day, Dong was also faced with the issue of selecting the developing direction of the literati painting in the future. The essay attempts to illustrate that the two choices actually are that of "the Theory of South and North Sects". |
