With the development of information technology, computer English translation becomes more and more important in introducing and assimilating advanced technology abroad. Taiwan takes the lead in computer technology study and computer manufacturing while Mainland China holds large resource of talents and wide market, the combination of the two regions' superiorities will bring forth huge economic benefit. However, the application of different translations of computer terms across the straits hinders the communication and cooperation between the two. This thesis deals with the different computer terms aliases between Taiwan and Mainland China and analyzing how these differences come into being. It will be stated from the following aspects: 1, special characteristics of computer terms;2, introducing different words and terms in the two sides of the Taiwan Straits and classify computer terminology aliases quantitatively;3, figuring out the relationship between the translators' choices and the different cultures;4, analyzing the relationship between translation strategy and the translators' styles.Based on 'choice is meaning' principle from Halliday's theory of systemic-functional grammar and his discussion on context of situation, the writer analyzes and examines the different aliases and translation styles between Taiwan and Mainland China, and the conclusion comes to: 1, the difference between Taiwan and Mainland China is not only a historic but also a cultural issue, what is shown in the field of computer science and technology has reflected how deeply cultures affect language;2, diversities between the two regions in computer English translation are inevitable because of the influence of different cultures;3, it will become harder and harder to unify the terminology aliases because of the high-speed growth of computer technology and network;4, we can not make a hasty judgment on which kind of translation is better because what is more important is to understand the technical essence from those versions rather than enjoy the beauty of language. In addition, the writer points out that the two regions' workers need to work together to strengthen the communication and cooperation in computer Englishtranslation, and try their best to mitigate the bad affects of different application.
