Research On The Narrative Art Of SAN YAN And LIANG PAI

This paper researches the narrative art of SAN YAN and LIANG PAI from four aspects.Chapter One is about the narrative structure. It makes a discussion from the outward form of the text and the plot mode of the story. At first, SAN YAN and LIANG PAI reflect a narrative pattern of formulation in the outward form. Secondly, in the aspect of the plot structure of the stories , they also have the feature of formulation. Most of the stories (represented by the retribution fictions) are demonstrated by retribution mode in the deep structure and coincidence mode in the skill structure.Chapter Two is about the narrative time. It makes an analysis on the duration and order. On the duration, outline and scene are presented in turn in SAN YAN and LIANG PAI. So the narrative time is fast and flowing. On the order, sequence is the main form, so as to maintain the coherence and unity of narrative. The application of anticipation narrative and flashback break the natural order, which make narrative more intact and more various.Chapter Three is about the narrative situation. It mainly studies three factors of the narrative situation, such as the visual angle , expression and narrative voice. The application of visual angle is very agile and special. Because of the existence of the simulated context, SAN YAN and LIANGPAI are presented by the entire visual angle of narrator on the whole frame. But for the sake of the special narrative aspect, sometimes the authors use the limited and theatrical visual angles skillful. On the expression and narrative voice, this paper mainly discusses the universalvoice of the narrator.Chapter Four is about the narrative rhetoric. It deals with the two obvious traits in SAN YAN and LIANG PAL Simulated context is the invention of the Vernacular Novels, the combination of poesy and prose is a traditional method which developed further in SAN YAN and LIANG PAL However, these two rhetoric skills affect the later novels deeply in the narrative art.
