A Study On Liang Guizi’s "Yuanmeidong People"

Liang Guizi was quietly landing in the Korean literary world in the 1980’s, she was also a talented women writer who caused a great sensation in that year of Korean literary world. Her series of novels "Yuanmeidong People" won the prize in fifth Liu Zhou Xuan literature prize in 1988, at the same time she got a reputation for South Korea 。 This series of novels seemingly drew the material of trivial and not chaotic daily life with loveful angle and nuanced drawing style of writing, carefully outlined the various life styles of people living on the edge of the city. This opened up a new world of Korean novels in the 1980’s.In this paper, Liang Guizi’s series of novels, "Yuanmeidong People" as the object of study, on the base of previous research results, used biographical criticism, social historical criticism, psychological criticism, structuralism criticism, female writing, fiction aesthetics and other various critical methods, and focused on studying characters and narrative structures in these series of novels.Firstly, this paper reviews the background of this age that author laid in this novels, thereby analyzing the tragic fate of ordinary people under the environment of the era of rapid economic development in South Korea who was abandoned in the dark corner and be neglected, in order to survive they pay for struggling for death and coming through the fire. Based on this, discusses how the author recognize the Korean social reality in the 1980’s by this tiny world Yuanmeidong, and concludes the idea of her literary creation. In addition, as the supplement to the analysis of works, briefly discusses the creative motivation of "Yuan meidong People", the writer’s life experience and its image, the specialty of the series of novels and so on.Secondly, on the basis of elucidating the specialty of the series of novels material, inspected Yuanmeidong residents’ various aspects of life in Fuchuan city on the edge of Seoul and the formation of a public image. Including involved in industrialization and urbanization of vortex, and people pushed out of center. Such as Zhenwan’s father in "Fire" and landlady in "Women in the teahouse" and so on miserable characters. And because of the gap between stratum and jealousy became irritable arrogant, lead a nihilism of characters. Such as sir Dagui in "Yuanmei dong Poet", Jingzhu’s mother in "The goldfinch", "he" in the "A stray rat" and so on. Not only that, but also there are some indifferent characters that is for their own petty profits not hesitate to slander others and trample on others and more submissive, drag out an ignore existence of characters. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the monitor Jin on this. He is a repeat character through "Yuanmeidong People", "A stray rat", "Rainy day should go to the Jialifengdong", "Grain ration" and other series of novels. Through the comprehensive analysis of monitor Jin’s multiple features in the series of novels, totally carved out a character that in order to adapt to the society then become extremely sophisticated. Also there are some simple honest people who misunderstand the old way of life and cling to the traditional life style. Such as Ren in "Rainy day should go to the Jialifeng Dong" who is the typical image of the honest and upright. The young cutter in "Underground life" is the character that himself is into dilemma, but consciously keep a common class with other people and remain unruffled and take anger from dark reality calmly. Uncle Jiang in "the last land" is the typical character that is unable to give up the obsession of the land, and stubbornly live an old life.At last, this paper uses the research methods of the novel aesthetics, combing Yuanmeidong’s world state, human feelings, custom and many other secular factors is how to be used as a small prop to properly used on the performance of the daily life of the people on the edge of the city. And to sum up the author Liang Guizi’s unique delicate scene description, sharp psychological description and image processing techniques, ultimately in this paper illustrate how these techniques make a proper contribution to the achievement of realism in the series of novels.
