As a famous philosophy of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, Li Erqu's ethics theory stands as a transitional one between traditional ethical theory and Enlightening thought. He changed the only inward-oriented direction of the traditional theory and combined the outward cultivation model with the inward model together, which paid attention to both knowledge and mind, as well as the practice. Actually this was the initial stage of the Enlightenment thought.Based on the theory of humanity, Li Erqu holds the opinion that all the human beings are born with good virtues, it's the external environment that distort them, thus people should correct his errors and return to the original state. His targeted humanity is to be well cultivated and applicable to the society, that is, with high-standard of morality and at the same time making contributions to the economic development. To fulfill this goal, he acts from a moral and ethical sense to integrate knowledge and practice. This kind of cultivation not only emphasizes the improvement of the moral consciousness, but also the practical experience. Through the above analysis, this article summarized the characteristics of Erqu's ethic theory: It takes practicability as this core value and tries to achieve it by adopting the method combining both the knowledge improvement and the mind cultivation. The theory is established in a high level while it is very simple to apply. It inherits the traditional theory and at the same time makes its own creations, especially his combination of the morality and the practicability. What's more, he took this as the main clue connecting his whole theory, which is the greatest contribution he made to the traditional ethic theories. Er Qu grasped with the pulse of the times, and promoted the development of Enlightenment ideas. It makes its own theoretical contribution to the moral construction of the socialist society and is beneficial for improving people's morality, as well as their full-scale development.
