In order to train larger numbers of graduates with multiple qualifications, college English teaching is faced with innovations to meet the needs of the open policy and the fast-developing economy of our country. The college students are universally not satisfied with the setup of the present college English curriculum. Functional leveled English education system as the result of college English teaching reform is a natural response to the diversified demand for human resources and variety of human resource development patterns, and is determined by the principle of teaching students in accordance of their aptitude. The thesis demonstrates the necessity and urgency of a scientific foreign language education system in the universities and colleges of China.ESP is seen as approach not as a product: understood properly, it is an approach to language learning which is based on the learner's needs. The options of teaching materials and methods are determined by students' learning needs. ESP attaches importance to the practical utility of language. For students, the learning of English is to meet the communicative requirements in their professional field. This theory is instructive to the setting of the Senior College English Curriculum.The thesis analyses the problems existing in the setup of the senior college English curriculum and discusses the necessity and primary importance to reform the setup of the present senior college English curriculum. It is necessary to reform the setup of the college English in time and improve the utility rate of the teaching resources for the sake of the training the students' comprehensive practical ability of English. On the basis of investigation and the theoretical direction of ESP, this thesis puts forward several suggestions as to the setting of the senior college English curriculum.
